    Description of a painting

The scene takes place in the canteen of an orphanage.

In the background, we can see children (orphans) and the second cook.

In the foreground, we can see Oliver Twist and a cook/the supervisor.

In this scene, Oliver is asking for more food and the other children are waiting and looking at him.

The cooks are very surprised and shocked whereas Oliver looks very brave and a little scared too.

All the orphans are very slim/skinny because they are really hungry/starving.

  • Hello everyone,

Last time, we worked on a document and described scenes using the two preterits:

    Thursday, January 28th

    (the twenty-eighth)

Construction : auxiliaire « be » au prétérit [was ou were] + V-ing.

HOMEWORK: For next time (not Monday!): learn example one on your document and revise the grammar lesson.

  • Hello everyone,

Today, we continued working on the video extract that we watched the other day.

    Monday, January 25th

    (the twenty-fifth)

    Oliver Twist: Video N°1

Oliver Twist arrived at the orphanage.

At the orphanage, the orphans worked in a factory.

During the night, an orphan was extremely hungry and he wanted to eat his mate.

Oliver drew the straws, lost and he had to ask for more food.

The supervisor became extremely angry and he started screaming.

He ran after Oliver who ran away.

Finally, the supervisor caught him and took him to the dining-room where the boss was.

What was going on during the first scene?

Oliver Twist: What was going on?

What was going on when Oliver entered the dining-room?

è     Gentlemen were eating when Oliver entered the dining-room.
