• Capacities and talents: can and can't

    Hello everyone,

    This week, we started a new subject: capacities and talents.

    Here are our lessons:

    Thursday, November 26th

    CAPACITIES AND TALENTS

    CAN and CAN’T

     

    Activity n°1: [Subject + CAN or CAN’T + complement]

     Examples: 

    Don can't sing.

    Max can play football.

     

    GRAMMAR: can and can’t

    -       Avec le modal can/can’t, on parle des capacities ou talents, ce qu’on sait/peut faire.

    -       Phrase affirmative : can se place avant le verbe.

    -       Négation : can’t : can + not = cannot

    -       Question : Can se place au début de la question.

    -       Réponse courte : Yes/No + sujet + can/can’t.

     

    Ø Carol can swim but she can’t dance.

     

    Ø Can you sing? No, I can’t

    Questions and answers with can/can’t

     

    1. Can you play the guitar? No, I can’t.

    2. Can you sing? Yes, I can.

     

    ð I can’t play the guitar but I can sing.

    SONG: can and can’t

    Complete the capacities

    An elephant can walk but it can’t jump/fly.

    A kangaroo can hop but it can’t run/walk.

    An octopus can swim but it can’t hop/clap.

    A koala can sleep but it can’t swim/dance.

    *** : very well

    ** : quite well

    *: a little

    X: can’t ... at all : I can’t dance at all.
