    Description of a painting

The scene takes place in the canteen of an orphanage.

In the background, we can see children (orphans) and the second cook.

In the foreground, we can see Oliver Twist and a cook/the supervisor.

In this scene, Oliver is asking for more food and the other children are waiting and looking at him.

The cooks are very surprised and shocked whereas Oliver looks very brave and a little scared too.

All the orphans are very slim/skinny because they are really hungry/starving.

Oliver and the master: let’s compare them

Oliver is small but the master is fat.

Oliver is paralysed with fear whereas the master is paralysed with wonder.

The master is pale [peil] and stupefied while Oliver is alarmed.

Oliver is more desperate than the master but the master is healthier than Oliver.
