Hello everyone,
During our last lessons, we discovered Charles Dickens' biography.
We found all the verbs in the preterit.
Then, we discovered how to ask questions in the preterit:
Was (be) = être
Was born (be born) = être né
Moved (move) = déménager
Earn = gagner de l’argent (salaire)
Had to (have to) = exprime l’obligation
Couldn’t go (can’t go) = ne pas pouvoir [aller]
Taught (teach) = enseigner
Became (become) = devenir
Found (find) = trouver
Started (start) = commencer
Died (die) = mourir
Went (go) = aller / Went by (go by) = passer (le temps qui passe)
Wednesday, January 18th
(the eighteenth)
Questions about Dickens’ biography
è What was his job?
“was” est à la fois un verbe et un auxiliaire: Il construit la question et il porte le sens (être).
è Where did he move?
Quand on utilise un autre verbe, on doit ajouter l’auxiliaire “did” pour construire la question.
